Meet Becca – she joined us a few months ago and is a solid staple in our noon classes each day. She’s hilarious, brings a smile to our faces and is absolutely crushing it in the gym! She’s our athlete of the month for March, check her out!
When did you join CFU, and what made you walk through those doors?
I joined CFU about four months ago. I decided that I needed to find a way to be more consistent with my workouts. Before I started at CFU, I was going to the gym after work and would find every excuse not to go. I was finding with being a new mom I was struggling to make myself a priority. Now that I’ve joined CFU, I am able to attend noon classes (because I work across the street!) It really holds me accountable since the coach is expecting me to be there and I really enjoy getting up and moving midday!
Do you remember your first WOD, or your thoughts during it?
Turkish get ups was the strength, and the WOD was something with ring push-ups and DB snatch. I remember thinking GOOD LORD what have I gotten myself into!? After it was over, I felt the sense of accomplishment and knew I wanted to keep coming to CFU.
What’s your favorite thing about CrossFit?
Definitely the members of CFU and the CF community. Everyone I’ve worked out with have been so welcoming and encouraging. I also travel a lot for work and have been able to visit a bunch of different CF gyms and find that the CF community as a whole is awesome. Aside from the members, I love how CF challenges you physically and mentally. Some WODs humble you, crush you and tear you down and others leave you feeling euphoric and on top of the world. No matter what the WOD was, I always have a feeling like I gave it my all and at least had one accomplishment for the day.
What type of workouts do you enjoy doing the most?
Anything that is short and intense. However, I have found the workouts I dread the most end up being my favorite so basically, anything with burpees.
What’s one goal you have for the next year?
My goal for going to the gym in the past has always been weight loss, but the more time I spend at CFU the more my goals change. I just started to notice in the past month or so all the things I’m able to do now that I couldn’t when I started. My goals for 2018 are to continue consistently working out, establish PRs for lifts and do a HSPU.
What would you tell anyone walking into CFU for the first time?
“Will it be easy? Nope. Will it be worth it? Absolutely.”
Really though, I would tell them that this is an excellent community, the WODs are fun and it’s awesome to see yourself get stronger.
What’s your greatest achievement, or what are you most proud of thus far?
Being able to RX a lot more WODs and getting double unders! Even though weight loss hasn’t been my ultimate goal this year, I’ve lost a total of 20 inches so far. Oh, and my ability to hover over public toilet seats, that’s a win.
If you could have a workout named after you, what would it be?
5 rounds for time:
25 wall balls
15 Box Jumps
