June’s athlete of the month – better late than ever 😉 – is an absolute rockstar! You may remember Jeff from a post he did earlier in the year, “I started CrossFit to change my life around…” Take a look and learn a little bit more about our BFF Jeff. We’re all so so lucky to have him a part of the CFU wolfpack.
When did you join CFU, and what made you walk in those doors?
I joined CFU in January of 2018, so… 5 months ago. What made me walk in those doors? Well, I was fat. I was depressed. I was tired. I needed to change my life around.
Do you remember your first WOD? Or your thoughts during that first WOD?
I remember not being able to do anything that was the whiteboard. I also remember seeing stuff like TTB and being like, what the heck is this secret language that Crossfit has?
What’s your favorite thing about CrossFit?
I love how encouraging everyone is at CFU. I love how every workout can be scaled to your abilities. I love how it’s changed my life in just 5 months.
What type of workout do you enjoy doing the most?
The ones that afterwards I say “that sucked.” While I hate most workouts, I secretly love them.
What’s one goal you have for 2018?
By walking through the door five months ago, I already met my goal. By losing 50lbs, I’ve already surpassed my goal. By competing in my first Crossfit competition this month, I’ve completed goals I didn’t even have. If I had to set a goal right now, it would be to keep my head high, show up and do my best.
What would you tell anyone looking to walk into CFU for the first time?
If I can change my life around in 5 months, you can too. Putting yourself in uncomfortable situations isn’t easy, but think of it as an investment toward yourself. You’ll have a box full of people ready to cheer you on.
What’s your greatest achievement, or what are you most proud of thus far?
I had a lot of pride after I got home from competing in the Rookie Rumble this month. I didn’t set expectations, I really just didn’t want to come in last place. I came in second-to-last, so that’s a victory in my book.
If there was a workout named after you, what would it be called and what would it be?
“It’s All Downhill From Here”
80 Air Squats
60 Mountain Climbers
50 Double-Unders (100 singles)
40 Box Jumps
10 Hollow Rock
