Meet our first athlete of the month for 2019, Jhoana! Jhoana and her daughter joined CFU this summer and are staples at Tina’s cardio circuit classes! We’re thrilled that as Jhoana has become more comfortable with the movements and pops into our CrossFit classes as well! She’s a joy to have in the gym, and we can’t wait to see how she continues to progress moving into 2019!
When did you join CFU, and what made you walk in those doors?
I joined CFU June 2018 I was recommended by Tina because I had attended a different gym but it had closed down but, I had been working out with Tina for 8 months before I joined CFU.
Do you remember your first WOD? Or your thoughts during that first WOD?
I don’t really remember what I exactly did my first day but I do remember that it was challenging and difficult at first.
What’s your favorite thing about CrossFit?
My favorite thing about CrossFit is that I have very supportive, friendly, and helpful team mates.
What type of workout do you enjoy doing the most?
The workout I enjoy the most is rowing and biking and my cardio class with Tina.
What’s one goal you have for 2019?
My goal for 2019 is to get more healthy and gain more strength as well as improving my movements.
What would you tell anyone looking to walk into CFU for the first time?
The vibe is very cool, everyone is very helpful and extremely supportive. You have to start somewhere and my advice is to start easy and take it day by day at first it seems challenging but the more you do it the easier it gets and is fun as well but at the end I can say it is so worth it and I enjoy every step of the way.
What’s your greatest achievement, or what are you most proud of thus far?
My greatest achievement is that I have gained lots of confidence. I am very confident in myself although in the past I doubted myself so much but about 18 months ago I took the decision to take more care of my health although it hasn’t been an easy journey I know that I have a very supportive team as well as my family who have been there and have supported me and pushed me to do my best. I know that I can do anything I put my mind to and that nothing is impossible for me because I believe in myself and I know that I can do it.
If there was a workout named after you, what would it be called and what would it be?
If I were to have workout named after me it would be called “Fearless” this word says a lot about the person that I am. It demonstrates my strengths and that I am willing to do anything out of my comfort zone and will exhibit that I am capable of anything. Some of the exercises that would be included would be double unders, box jumps, rope climbing, and many more.
