Steph here – popping in to take complete blame for not announcing our athlete of the month earlier in the calendar! Can you believe that it’s already February 18th!? It’s Open season!
Anywhooo – we are ecstatic to announce Nick as our athlete of the month for February. He’s not even been with us for a full year yet and is totally killing it with his progress, commitment and overall CFU journey. We’re so grateful to have him as a part of our pack.
When did you join CFU, and what made you walk in those doors?
June 2018. My wife, Aisling, and I had just moved to Lancaster so I had done my research on what CF gyms were available in the area. I liked the vibe I could sense through CFU’s website along with viewing the programming before joining.
Do you remember your first WOD? Or your thoughts during that first WOD?
I got involved with CF way back in October 2008 so I don’t remember my first ever WOD. But, my first one at CFU, which I also don’t remember, was with Jose, Carlos, John, and Rachel coaching. It was great to be welcomed in by amazing people right away.
What’s your favorite thing about CrossFit?
Easily the community. It’s what gets me out of bed at 5 am and to the gym.
What type of workout do you enjoy doing the most?
Short, quick, 7 minutes or less. Something along the line of Grace, Karen or Annie. And then the complete opposite of that, 45 minute+ aerobic burners like Murph.
What’s one goal you have for the next year?
I’m getting over some hip and back issues I had before I joined so I’d really like to see my strength numbers go up. Also, get back to knocking out MU’s on the regular.
What would you tell anyone looking to walk into CFU for the first time?
It might be scary, especially if it’s your first time in a CF gym, but everybody is very welcoming so just get in and start! You only grow by doing things that scare the $hit out of you.
What’s your greatest achievement, or what are you most proud of thus far?
Becoming one of the regulars at the gym. Transitioning out of the army was harder than I thought it would be but the community at CFU made it infinitely easier. Having that sense of camaraderie and shared experience with others is huge.
If there was a workout named after you:
1) What would be be called? GoBIG
2) What would it be? Probably a 7 min AMRAP with power cleans and bar facing burpees.
