We’re thrilled to announce that our September Athlete of the Month is none other than Claudia Baluskie! She’s a California transplant, bringing the sunshine and cool attitude to Lancaster, PA and has brighten up our classes so much! After four years in the Navy, she’s headed back to school to pursue her next big adventure!
We’re also SO EXCITED to share that Claudia will be honored by The Weekly Fight this week, so come on out to CFU on Saturday to celebrate with us.
When did you join CFU, and what made you walk through those doors?
I joined CFU in the beginning of June. I was looking to begin my CrossFit Journey and I thought CFU looked pretty awesome and the people seem great!
Do you remember your first WOD, or your thoughts during it?
I do not remember my first WOD but I do remember the first WOD I thought I was going to die on. It was the 2000 meter row with thrusters every minute progressing in reps. I do not hold myself responsible for the thoughts in my head that day…
What’s your favorite thing about CrossFit?
My favorite thing about CrossFit is the community that has been created from it. The days I really do not want to workout I am still motivated to go because I know everyone else will be there. Being surrounded by a group of people so motivated to get better always puts the motivation back in me.
What type of workouts do you enjoy doing the most?
The ones where I cannot function at the end because I feel accomplished…I enjoy any workout we are not having to do anything involving hanging from the bars.
What’s one goal you have for the next years?
One goal would be to start completing all of the workouts at the RX weights/heights.
What would you tell anyone walking into CFU for the first time?
Have fun with your workout and do not be intimidated because everyone is so supportive.
What’s your greatest achievement, or what are you most proud of thus far?
I think my greatest achievement would just be the slow progression I can see in myself with weight. Also box jumps, had a near death experience years ago and have overcome my fear!
If you could have a workout named after you, what would it be?
I would rename the Sally workout to be about me because I always have fun doing that one.
