I was always active growing up. I rode horses competitively, I danced, I cheered, I was involved in countless activities, but I was never drawn towards fitness. In college I sort of, kind of, worked out. Mostly I went to the gym and just socialized (still do). My senior year in college I decided on a whim to run a half marathon, especially because no one thought I could, and it was then I started to love the feeling of working out.
Fast forward to August 2013. One of my best friends started CrossFit and told me I should try it, and I will almost always try something once. While on vacation we dropped into Crossfit Parallax and it was the worst, hardest, most awful workout of my life. And I loved it. She helped me research different gyms in Lancaster and chose Crossfit Uncompromised. I walked in and never looked back.
The beginning was really hard, I mean let’s be real, it’s still really hard. In fact, it’s taken five years for me to realize that what I’ve been chasing is this sense to not seem weak. I have been pushing and pushing my whole life to break barriers and prove something that I should already know, and that everyone else already knows. I am strong. I thought CrossFit would just make me strong physically, but it has taught me to be humble and vulnerable. To see that there’s a strength in that and not a weakness. This is has by far been the greatest challenge than mastering any movement or any weight.
It really only took that first step in the door for me to be hooked. My journey with CrossFit has lead me down a path I never saw for myself. It’s where I met my husband, where I’ve made some amazing friendships, and above all where I’ve been able to find myself.
Moving forward, I have big goals for 2018 and beyond. Currently, I’m working on my 200 RYT with Create Karma and that journey is a whole other story! I also have some training and nutritional goals, and some personal goals. At the end of the day though, I just want to live my biggest, most badass, and whole hearted life I can all the while lifting heavy things with my friends.
