Ramon came to the Open house and never left basically! He is constantly asking every coach for advice on how to improve every single movement. Super hard worker and listens to the coaches. He is always willing to help out with anything at the gym.
When did you join CFU, and what made you walk in those doors?
I joined CFU on Saturday July 20, 2019.
I work in Greenfield Corporate Park and on my lunch breaks or going home I’d see an army of half dressed people taking over the street. It reminded me of my Cross Country running days and the life giving experiences I received from that community. Therefore, I figured I should trade my unused LA fitness membership for a community of supporters throughout my journey.
Do you remember your first WOD? Or your thoughts during your first WOD?
Yes I recall my first Warm-up of the day. My thought was I need to put in some work if I’m having trouble breathing during the Warm-up of the day.

What’s your favorite thing about CrossFit?
The community aspect. I come from a family of 10 siblings and tons of cousins. Even though I’m quiet, I enjoy a busy place with familiar faces and providing encouragement to each other.
What type of workout do you enjoy doing the most?
I hate them all equally….they all suck. With that said, since I’m making decisions all day at work I enjoy being able to show up and do what’s on the screen.

What’s one goal you have for the next year?
In April 2019 I was weighing about 212 pounds so my goal is to be below 200 by December 31, 2019. Im currently at 202.

With the work being put in, I don’t actually care too much about my weight gain/loss but if I reach the goal I can reward myself with some other type of CrossFit gear…so why not.
Additionally and more importantly, I have a bucket list of movements/exercises I want to perform well; so I’ll be working on those over the coming years.
What would you tell anyone looking to walk into CFU for the first time?
CrossFit in general: Show up. Do what the coaches tell you to do. Repeat the next day. Then your lifestyle and mindset will begin to change for the better. But keep it simple and just tell yourself to show up.

CFU specifically: CFU has a really positive vibe. Everyone works together on their individual journey with encouragement from others. The coaches are very knowledgeable and are always willing to scale exercises or challenge you safely.
What’s your greatest achievement, or what are you most proud of thus far?
For the past 8 years I have been going to gyms for one day or maybe two and quitting. I’m proud to have been showing up for the past 4 months and putting in the work.

If there was a workout named after you:
1) What would it be called?

Well, if it were named after me it would be called Ramon Jose Marti Ramirez de Arellano…or maybe just Ray.
2) What would it be?

24 single unders to take you back to the good old days
C. 15 calorie bike sprint to bring you back to real life…no cool down just send them home.
