Celebrating the last day of July with our July Athlete of the Month – Jess! She’s coming up on her one year anniversary next month and we’re so happy to have her as a part of our pack. Jess always has a smile on her face and brings such a great attitude to our classes. Maybe we’ll even see The Running Lamb show up on the WOD board one day!
When did you join CFU, and what made you walk in those doors?
I joined CFU in August of 2018 with Tiffany, but I was at a different CrossFit gym for about 2 years before CFU. I hit a plateau at my old gym, and I was ready for a new atmosphere and programming. After the first class, I knew that I was ready for the change.
Do you remember your first WOD? Or your thoughts during that first WOD?
It involved jump-roping and heavy front squats, and I remember I had to scale down the weight during the WOD. I remember feeling like I had just started CrossFit again for the first time during my first few weeks at CFU. It was brutal at first, but in a good way!
What’s your favorite thing about CrossFit?
The ability to leave your ‘head space’ during that hour class. If I have a stressful day at work, I always leave the gym forgetting about my work day stress. I attribute it to the fact that I can’t breathe during the workout, so my only focus becomes surviving the WOD 🙂
What type of workout do you enjoy doing the most?
Short sprints (200 or 400 m) with any barbell movement (except for a thruster).
What’s one goal you have for the year?
Gymnastics– I would like to get a pull up and handstand push up.
What would you tell anyone looking to walk into CFU for the first time?
Give it a shot! CrossFit is awesome because it is about your own individual progress and goals. I think it is great that every part of the workout can be scaled to the individual. It is pretty cool to see a class of people with different ages, athletic levels, goals, etc. all push through and endure the same WOD.
What’s your greatest achievement, or what are you most proud of thus far?
If there was a workout named after you:
1) What would be be called? The Running Lamb
2) What would it be?
400 M Run
__add weight each round__
7 Power Clean
7 Shoulder to Overhead
